One hundred women

One of the most influential people in my life is my grandmother, Amelia Beattie. Or more affectionately known to me as Nanny. It's her birthday today, she's 76. As a girl on Bell Island, Newfoundland (an island within an island, a meta-island?) she was far more interested in running around, fishing and playing with the boys than her slew of sisters. Sure a few years ago she went out on the boats and caught a shark.

Needless to say even with a broken back (an injury from a car accident years ago), my Nan can still lure in quite the catch. To steal a Newfoundland colloquialism, I'm some lucky to belong to her.
